This duet was a winner for the ZAWA! Duo call for scores in 2024.
This piece is dedicated to my friend Tessa Gross, Oboist and English Horn musician for the “President’s Own”, United States Marine Band. Tessa and I met through a virtual masterclass that she was teaching during the year 2020. I performed for her that day and we immediately hit it off as friends and colleagues. Since then, she has mentored me and looked out for me as I have explored my mind and contemplated my role as a musician. She helped me navigate my transition from being a performer to a composer and I am ever grateful for her impact in my life. This piece was originally written as a reed quintet and it going to be a gift for Tessa. However, it was reworked for flute duo and electronics after she shared the ZAWA! Duo’s call for scores. I titled the piece “Gratitude for Daydreamers” because of the dream like nature the piece cast upon me as I wrote it. During my talks with Tessa, we would go on tangents and share our daydreams with each other. This piece is a musical expression of the friendship I share with Tessa. - Marcus Moore
