Shinra is a fanfare for Wind Band. This piece was inspired by the music making that I took part in as a member of Gagaku and Koto ensembles. I love medieval Japanese music and within Shinra, concepts and sonorities from those medieval ensembles ca be heard.
Shinra was premiered by the Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band (MARFORPAC Band) alongside students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa for my Graduate Composition Recital. I wrote this piece as a statement to my power and as a thank you letter to those who support me in life which include God, the Marines, and my teachers.
